Sponsor Resources: Pricing and Marketing
Minors must be approved by the WMTC office (email the office@wildmedcenter.com for approval). If a minor is approved, the release form and parent/guardian permission is a part of online registration.

In the cases below, you may exceed the top end of the public tuition range. Contact the WMTC office with any questions.
- If you add CPR or AED certification to a course, you may pass that additional cost on to the students.
- Any additional amenities provided as a part of the course (e.g. food or camping) can be added to the public tuition.
Each sponsor's pricing calculation looks a little different depending on a number of factors. Examples are: Does the sponsoring organization need to generate revenue from the course, break even, or is it subsidized by a department or grant? Is the course instructor local or are they traveling? (There are no lodging expenses and fewer meal and mileage expenses if the instructor is local.) Does the sponsor have all of the necessary equipment and space, or will they rent or trade equipment for spots in the course? General pricing guidelines are below - remember to to consider additional factors that are unique to your situation that may not be covered by this list. Reach out with any questions!
- Multiply the contracted tuition by the minimum number of students for total contracted tuition
- Add any instructor expenses. Base this on estimates that you and the instructor have discussed and agreed upon
- Add other associated costs such as advertising, consumable supplies, rental of equipment or space, and then a little extra.
- Divide the total by the course minimum to get the cost of the course to you.
- Adjust your public tuition/pricing based on your cost and your organizational needs. Consider tiered pricing based on students' relationship to your organization (e.g. staff vs. community member)
Fees & Invoicing
If a deposit is included in your contract with the Licensed Provider, be sure to pay it by the due date. Course deposits often cover up-front costs for the instructor. Delaying the deposit may mean a delay in making travel reservations or shipping handbooks and other course materials or supplies, which may lead to higher overall expenses.
- Tuition for your contract minimum or the number of students present, whichever is greater
- Tuition for any students of a hybrid course who received access to the hybrid course website and testing (Part 1)
- Instructor expenses, including shipping of course materials
- Any other fees specified in your contract (e.g. rental of equipment)
Course Information Form
After you've signed your contract with a WMTC Licensed Provider and decided on pricing, please complete the Sponsor Course Information Form ASAP
This form contains the information WMTC needs to begin setting up your course in our systems. During this process, we will reach out to you to review your student registration form, clarify details, and schedule a time for a portal orientation meeting (more below).
Sponsor Portal Orientation
- Locate the portal invitation email, open the link, and login (create password). Save your login info for quick access.
- Ensure you can log in to the Sponsor Portal and share your screen during the video meeting.
- Don't click any buttons or make any changes in your portal until the meeting.
Marketing
- Start spreading the word early. Really early. Earlier than you think. Ideally, people would know that you have a course coming up at least 6 months ahead. We understand that's also not always possible, but hopefully it gives you an idea of the ideal timeframe.
- Don't wait until enrollment looks low to start promoting your course — it's too late at that point. All too often, we see courses not meet their ideal numbers because course promotion got a slow start.
- Use all of the outlets below available to you, the energy you put in to promoting your course is directly related to enrollment.
- Every course site has a selling point. Big cities are easy to fly in and out of, have tons of things to do, cool museums, etc. Remote sites have beauty, spots for recreating before and after courses, and realistic simulation sites. If you as a sponsor advertise something cool about your site...and it's supported by a graduate, you'll get more public enrollment.
- Help people in your community understand why your wilderness medicine course is valuable for them.
Course Promotion Outlets
We strongly recommend that you utilize all of the promotion outlets below to spread the word about your course.
- We will post your course on the WMTC website and on our partner websites. Unless you can fill a course with staff or students from your organization, it will be necessary for you to advertise locally, and perhaps regionally.
- We strongly encourage you to set up a web page dedicated to your wilderness medicine course(s) on your site and link to WMTC. Dedicated course web pages provide a place to house all your course information (registration form, directions to the course site, housing, meals, and other detailed course logistics).
- Post your course on your Instagram, Facebook, and other social media outlets — tag/mention WMTC in any relevant post (@wmtcinternational on Instagram and @WildernessMedicineTrainingCenter on Facebook). Posts could include why you chose to sponsor a course with us, highlights from past courses (including photos), cool things about upcoming courses.
- If you are a member of any association that has an event calendar (e.g. AORE), post your course there and, if possible, link to both your course webpage and WMTC.
- Post flyers and announcements at local establishments (e.g. gear shops, climbing gyms, coffee shops, libraries, pubs - wherever you anticipate potential students may be.)
- Email blasts to prospective in-house students and local contacts (e.g. heads of outdoor programs, summer camp coordinators, managers of guide services, former WMTC students, etc.)
- Local radio, TV, newspapers or blogs. Some outlets may be willing to schedule a visit to the course to video a skills lab or simulation and chat with students. You may even be able to get a copy of the video to help promote future courses.
- The WMTC office will also refer interested students to you.
