Wilderness Basic Life Support

Best for people traveling with reliable cell phone coverage where outside assistance is typically available within one hour. 

Focuses on basic life support — the assessment and treatment skills necessary to address a life-threatening injury or illness until more advanced help arrives.

Wilderness First Aid

Best for people taking half or full-day trips, traveling with reliable cell phone coverage, and where outside assistance is available within a few hours. This course is an introduction to wilderness expedition medicine. 

Designed as an introduction to wilderness expedition medicine, focusing on general concepts and basic treatment skills. Many WFA graduates return to take a longer, more intensive course. The certification also meets American Camping Association and Scouts of America trip leader requirements.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid

Best for people taking half-day, full-day, or short multi-day trips, those traveling with reliable cell or satellite coverage, and where outside assistance may be delayed for several hours.  Covers more topics/skills than our WFA course .

Designed for people taking half-, full, or short multi-day trips, those traveling with reliable cell or satellite coverage, and where outside assistance may be delayed for several hours.

Wilderness First Responder

Best for outdoor professionals, those taking multi-day or extended trips, and people involved with high-risk activities (rock climbing, whitewater paddling, mountaineering, etc.).

Wilderness EMR/EMT for licensed EMRs & EMTs

Best for urban EMRs or EMTs who wish to adapt their skills to a remote care environment as Search & Rescue team members, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members, rural or remote EMS, expedition medics, or trip leaders.

This course is designed for licensed EMRs & EMTs and focuses on assessing and treating traumatic, environmental, and medical emergencies in a wilderness expedition or remote EMS environment. 

Hybrid course: Online study & testing plus 5 days in-person,

Wilderness EMS for Advanced Provider

Designed for urban AEMTs, paramedics, and registered nurses. Participants must hold a current national registry certification or state license to receive certification as a WAEMT, WPM, or WRN. 

Focuses on assessing and treating traumatic, environmental, and medical emergencies in a wilderness expedition or remote EMS environment.

WFR & WEMS Recertification

Designed for graduates with current WFR and WEMS certifications who hold a national registry certification or state license.

Focuses on updates, patient assessment, and evacuation while providing a thorough review of the original course material. 90% of the course is hands-on simulations, skill labs, and case study reviews.

Designed for outdoor and medical professionals interested in instructing WMTC medical courses.
